SUNDAY CRYPTOGRAMS

Cryptograms are fun to solve. Each letter in the encoded message stands for another letter -- AND this relationship holds throughout the entire message. If, for instance, WGQ really is "THE", then all the W's in the message can equal a T, all the G's equal a H, and all the Q's equal an E. The puzzle is solved by simply guessing at what the letters stand for, and trying them out in the other words. One other thing you should remember, is that the letter E is the most commonly used letter in the English language. It is followed, in order, by TAONRISH. Good Luck!

It sure is nice to read up on the other members of the Honor Roll, isn't it? I would like to ask you (newcomers particularly) to snail mail to me a photograph, color slide, snapshot.. any size for me to scan, and perhaps a little bit about yourself... your hobbies, pets, family, etc. I will build a SPOTLITE page for you and link to it from the cryptogram page. (Hold off on submitting pictures of Dolly Parton, Bo Derek, Patrick Swayze and the like. I have plenty of pictures of them!) At the moment, we have plenty of room, -- you can ALSO add a larger picture (or a few smaller ones) at the bottom! Pictures of family, friends, pets, or a pix of your home -- just whatever you wish (in good taste)!

And OH, yes. In my cryptograms you may find a coded letter standing for itself in the plaintext. There are two schools of thought about using a letter to mean itself. I belong to the school that sees nothing wrong with it. To scramble a plain text character, you can use ANY character (including itself). The program I use to scramble the plain text abides by that rule, saves me from making other mistakes. But there is no reason that the character itself should be excluded. I do know that some are rather vehement about it, call it unfair, etc. It is not. You may see it again in cryptograms on my pages. Criminals, crooks and professionals are not bound by any rules at all, they are not interested in making it "easy" to solve.

The Sunday cryptograms are usually posted Saturday evenings; usually around 8PM (Eastern); certainly before midnight.
